Origins and development
The "Walliser Spycher" was established in the early years of past-war tourism. Young newly-weds, Yvonne and Armin Berchtold-Lampart, already experienced in the tourist industry, crossed Switzerland and Europe to return to the Wallis after years of globetrotting.
In 1960, they acquired the "Christiana" Chalet, built by the Lenoirs in 1957.
The spread of tourism from the second half of the 50s onwards prompted the couple to turn their holiday retreat into a guesthouse with three guestrooms.
Foundation
The "Walliser Spycher" guesthouse was finally officially opened on December 15th, 1963. Blending perfectly with the natural surroundings, the hotel offered its guests a piece of "old Wallis", serving regional gastronomic specialities and local wines in a traditional atmosphere full of rustic charm.
Nothing has changed! Even after several renovations and extensions, the Hotel "Walliser Spycher", with its traditional local timber and granite chalet-style construction, still retains its rustic charm while offering every modern comfort and facility.
Come and find out for yourself!
